Although garages still take up counter space they hide smaller appliances (like toasters and coffee makers) and create a cleaner and less-cluttered counter area. However, if you use this over the counter in a seldom-used area, like a corner against a wall, you will be maximizing storage. It also has the added advantage of quickly hiding messy and dirty appliances.
IKEA has roll-front cabinets with aluminum roll-up doors that hide smaller appliances and keep a kitchen looking beautifully modern. In our example, we have used an AVSKIT roll-front unit that’s 24″ wide and 48″ tall, perfect to tuck in a corner over the counter.
To make it even more functional, we customized this appliance garage with extra shelves to organize booklets, recipe cards, bills or other smaller items you need to put out of sight but close at hand. The shelves were cut from a 30″x58″ HARLIG front for integrated appliances and the total cost for this unit is $319.00
Things to remember:
- Keeping electrical outlets low on the wall offers a cleaner look when the doors are open.
- Make sure to plan for multiple electrical outlets and have them installed prior to the cabinet installation.
- Allow for adequate counter space in front of a garage when it will be used for heat-generating appliances like coffee makers or toasters.
- Check with your contractor about permits you may need for installing outlets inside appliance garages.

Another great idea. How do you get such amazing renderings? I can’t seem to do so using the IKEA design app on the website.
Hi Phil!
We are aware of IKEA’s Home Planner limitations and that’s why we use a different software. It allows us more room for creativity and the images have a much higher resolution, helping us achieve the renderings you see here.
Thanks for the visit!
