An organized craft room design for two

Probably you don’t need a home office but you’d love to have a craft room. Or maybe your spouse needs a home office and couldn’t care less about having a craft room. Why not do both? An organized craft room and home office (all in one!) provides enough space for two people working at the same time and keeps items tidy while avoiding clutter.

This ultra-modern craft room design was made with ADEL medium brown doors and a budget of $2,352, including countertop and accessories from IKEA.

Main features of this craft room design:

  1. Work areas are separated with different countertop colors. We used PRAGEL white stone effect and black mineral effect from IKEA.
  2. GRUNDTAL wall organizers  (containers, magnetic racks and cutlery caddies) with shelves have been used to keep small items accessible. A towel holder was installed as a ribbon dispenser.
  3. Cork sheets have been placed under the wall cabinets to add another functional space to keep notes and sketches.
  4. Each side has an independent AKURUM drawer base cabinet.

Is there any way that I could have 30″ between an island and wall or cabinetry? I only have 30″ to work with on both sides.

      Hi Karen,

We wouldn’t recommend it for more than one reason. You’ll need to ask yourself the following: Will your doors open properly? Will there be traffic behind the island? Will you be able to move appliances or any other heavy load between this space? Will there be enough room for more than one person to go through?

It’s hard to cope when there’s limited space because no one wants to sacrifice their storage needs. However, sometimes it’s better to leave some parts of the project out of the question (like an island) if it’s going to make your work uncomfortable. Remember: you’ll be working and cooking there every day for many years. Will you be able to work like that or is it going to be a deal-breaker?
